Chicken Hatching Program & St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations!

Today was an extra special day at Piney Lakes Childcare as we celebrated two exciting events that had everyone buzzing with joy and excitement!

First up, our highly anticipated Chicken Hatching Program arrived! The children were thrilled to see the eggs arrive and eagerly began learning about the fascinating process of how baby chicks hatch. It was amazing to see their faces light up with curiosity as they gathered around the incubator, watching the eggs gently rock and wobble. The excitement is building, and we can’t wait to see our little feathered friends make their debut over the next few days. This hands-on experience provides a fantastic opportunity for the children to connect with nature, observe life cycles, and gain a deeper appreciation for animals.

But that’s not all! Today was also St. Patrick’s Day, and we couldn’t resist joining in on the festive spirit. The children came to daycare dressed in their best green outfits, filling the rooms with a sea of emerald hues. From shamrocks to leprechauns, everyone had a great time showing off their St. Patrick’s Day spirit.

Of course, no celebration is complete without some delicious food! We treated the children to a variety of green-themed treats, from spinach muffins to kiwi fruit. The children loved trying new foods and enjoyed sharing their festive snacks with friends. It was the perfect way to add a little extra fun to the day while promoting healthy eating.

But the most exciting activity of the day was the Green Goo Sensory Play! The children had an absolute blast creating and exploring this fun, slimy concoction. With a little cornstarch, green food coloring, and water, we made a gooey, squishy substance that was both fun and educational. The children used their hands to explore the texture, discovering how the goo felt both solid and liquid at the same time. This hands-on activity not only brought smiles but also encouraged fine motor skills, sensory exploration, and imaginative play.

It was a day full of learning, laughter, and creative fun. Watching the children experience the wonder of life with the chicken hatching program, embrace the festive spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, and dive into the squishy world of green goo reminded us all of the magic of childhood. These moments of play and discovery are what make each day special.

Happy Feet Hygiene!

At Piney Lakes Childcare Centre, we are always excited to provide fun, educational experiences that help children learn important life skills. This week, our Happy Feet Dance incursion focused on an essential topic that’s part of our everyday routine—Hygiene! 🧼✨

 

This Week’s Happy Feet Lesson: The Hygiene Class!
This week’s Happy Feet Dance session was all about keeping clean and staying healthy. The children dove into the topic of hygiene with enthusiasm, learning about the importance of keeping their bodies fresh, clean, and healthy in a super fun and interactive way.

 

The lesson kicked off with a catchy tune that made brushing teeth fun and memorable:
🎶 Brush your teeth in the morning, brush your teeth at night,
Brush round and round, brush up and down, make sure you do it right! 🎶
The children sang along as they learned the best way to brush their teeth—making the task seem exciting instead of a chore!

 

Meet Piggy the Pig 🐷
To make the lesson even more fun, we met Piggy the Pig, who needed some help learning how to stay fresh and clean. Piggy, just like our children, was ready to learn the best ways to take care of herself. With the help of Laura and the rest of the Happy Feet crew, Piggy learned how to wash her hands, brush her teeth, and even wash her hair!

The Hygiene Class Highlights:

 

Handwashing: The children learned when and why it’s important to wash our hands, and how to do it properly to keep germs away. The Happy Feet team emphasized the importance of hand hygiene, especially before eating and after using the bathroom. 🖐
Brushing Teeth: We practiced brushing our teeth in the right way, ensuring we brush round and round and up and down to keep our smiles bright and healthy. The children loved singing along to the brushing song while perfecting their technique. 😁
Washing Hair: We also talked about the importance of washing our hair to keep it fresh and healthy. The kids learned that clean hair is just as important as clean hands and teeth! 🚿

 

By the end of the class, Piggy the Pig was sparkling clean, and the children felt empowered, knowing exactly how to take care of their own hygiene each day. 🌟

A Day Filled with Fluffy Pancakes and Big Smiles

Today, our little learners had an absolute blast flipping, stacking, and (of course) eating pancakes in honour of National Pancake Day. From the very first pancake that hit the griddle to the last bite, the excitement was contagious. The children have the chance to get involved by mixing the ingredients, pouring the batter, and even got to pour on their own maple syrup.

We love celebrating fun, creative days like this because it allows the children to explore their senses, work together in groups, and, most importantly, have loads of fun while learning. Pancakes may seem simple, but they can teach kids so much: from measuring ingredients to practising motor skills with stirring, flipping, and serving. It’s always amazing to see how much they enjoy being a part of these hands-on activities.
